Default Heater blower fan noisy

MY04 Legacy 3.0R, blower fan has become noisy. Took it out and there was rusty water around it, presumably come from above. The water didn't taste/smell like coolant though, and the carpet hadn't become wet. Coolant level is steady. Could it be that the heater matrix is OK but water has got in somewhere else? I guess I need to take off the panels below the windscreen?

Part number for the blower is 272700-0040, wondering if anyone knows or can look up compatibility between various Subaru models/years as a bit of oil on the old fan bearing hasn't quietened it down and it is rusty inside.

Can you get it to bits?

If so, it would be a relatively simple job to press out the bearing and any decent bearing supplier will match it for very few ££.

I struggled to find a way to release the spindle.

But I did put some oil down and clean what rust I could and it is quieter. Cleaned out some muck around the sigma alarm Subaru uk added which was blocking drainage. Air con drain pipe wasn't blocked either. Will see if it stays dry and then perhaps replace the fan if I can find one.
