Default Simtek sensor??..

Hi
I have just fitted a fmic to my v5 sti but i cant find the air temp sensor for the simtek.
The car had Simtek already installed when i brought it and i took it to JGM last year for a map. Mapped fine and gained 18bhp. Would Simon (the mapper) have informed me that there isnt one installed if there isnt?? And is it a crucial part?? someone told me it wont run right without it??

Sti5 has an air temp sensor in the standard pipe in front of the airbox.

Now on front mount you can fit an air temp sensor that screws into the intercooler pipework.
