NON Turbo 2.5L tuning
Hi All
Anyone have experience modifying non turbo 2.5L engines?
Thinking of sports cat / exhaust components and a custom remap on a 04-06 Legacy / Outback.
The standard 165bhp is OK for the family bus but it'd be nice to be able to get on a bit when you want to.
Cheers

You can get up to 300bhp from them if ur pockets are deep enough! There's a high compression kit in the states available for around 1700, I have a 2.5 Na quad cam in a impreza, with hard pipe induction kit, bigger throttle body, seated valves and polished inlet, fpr, borla manifold, cobra de cat, long life stainless system, lightend pullys, standalone management, lightend fly, paddle clutch, and pushing 200bhp going for mapping again after the new injectors and fuel pump go on! Hoping to squeeze a bit more out!
So theres a lot to do for which is quite little gain tbh, best mod I have done is change the gear box and rear diff to 4.444 final drive and running a v6 type r box which is low ratio and she now flys through the gears !!

Sorry to drag up an old thread.
I too have tuned a non-turbo 2.5 (albeit Legacy - EJ251). They respond well to cams (they have no overlap as std), compression (IVC is very late). And a good exhaust manifold (home built mine to cross over the correct cylinders and maintain long tuned lengths). It is a lot of diy though as nobody sells stuff here in the UK. I can get to 60 now in about 7seconds in a leggy estate - and get 38mpg (on a tank).
CJ, did you ever use a non turbo box/clutch? I am having touble getting a non-turbo clutch man enough.
