They can be a bit fussy about the quality of the cable. You really need a CAT6 screened cable: are the two you tried random ones from the back of a cupboard, or decent ones?
I'm pretty sure the Syvecs firmware is quite clever and will connect to a laptop regardless of whether the network adapter is set to a fixed IP address or if it's expecting DHCP - but I've only ever tried DHCP so might be worth making sure your laptop is set to that.
Do you get any error messages when you try and connect?

OK, good - sounds unlikely to be the cable then. And if you've managed to connect to it once, doesn't sound like a laptop issues. Other than a faulty ecu, the only thing I can think of is to check whether the metal ecu casing is catching on the circuit board, perhaps in the vicinity of the RJ45 Ethernet connector.
Syvecs uses the oem case, and to access the RJ45 the case is cut slightly...maybe there's a burr or similar where there shouldn't be?

Tried as best as I could, to talk you through it today whilst in the middle of the irish sea
If it worked once there should be no reason why it wont work again.
I would advise against taking to someone that doesnt know syvecs and cant sort it for you though. Just imho.
