Default Are Turbo Timers necessary?

Was speaking to someone and they mentioned that turbo timers are a waste of money as you can cool the car down by just driving off boost.

Or can somebody explain if there worth getting or not?

Not worth it.. just drive off boost for last mile or so and it will be fine, save your money for other mods.

It causes issues with car alarms, cant activate alarm while turbo timer is running.

I had a hks timer on my last sti and didn't have any issues with my alarm, also I thought it really cool when I got out and walked away with the car still running lol. Perhaps it depends which alarm or how its wired in? I'll be having another one but not top of my shopping list :-)

i have a one that somebody gave me, As above i agree they are pointless and just drive off boost etc.
i find mine useful in the winter as you can defrost the car with the engine running without keys inside and also good for cleaning as you can have ignition on and radio on without the need for keys inside.
useless what they are designed for though.

Like so many things, they were 'fashionable' a few years ago.
I wonder how many people actually locked the car and walked away with the engine still running without worrying that the damn thing would be still ticking over when they went back 8 hours later!

My Scoob had one on, was daft as you couldn't arm the alarm until it stopped anyway so you look a bit of a numpty hanging about the car.
As mentioned above, one day it decided to carry on running so it is now disconnected..
Also, driving sensibly as mentioned above for the last couple of minutes plenty of time for everything to calm/cool down enough to switch it off. There would be alot of scrap cars if all turbocharged engines HAD to tick over for two minutes before switching off

i must admit i wouldnt trust one to leave the car running, but it is usefull for defrosting without the risk off theft, as soon as the handbrake is released on mine the engine cuts out.

Cheers for the response people.

I agree to there handy in winter or every morning to warm up the car before you head out. Saves sitting in there waiting for it to warm up.

A few of my mates have had some, and with most you could jump in release the handbrake 80% of the way to keep the light on, then drive around clicking the button to add more time, only had to stop when the steering lock clicked on.
