Default Induction kit oil substitute?

Hi I have a K&N style induction kit fitted which is pretty dirty and needs a good clean.

I know that the filter needs to be oiled with specific oil after cleaning but i dont have any. Is there any oil i can use as a substitute?

I have read that gearbox or light weight engine oil will do the trick? As long as not too much is applied.

Cheers

How are you going to apply gearbox oil to the filter?!

Just buy the service kit, only about a tenner and comes with proper spray oil. Not really worth risking anything else IMO.

was just going to put a small amount on a cloth and dap it on.

I know that too much can foul up the maf but was only going to put a small amount on.

I have read on other forums that this can be used as a substitute for the proper oil.
