What engine, petrol 16valve, defo damaged
If your looking for a breakdown firm to tow you, they will charge a call out and a mileage charge, round trip!
eg, if your being towed 30 miles you will be charged 60 miles plus the callout.
if you dont have breakdown cover already, and the car is currently broken down on the motorway, the police will call the duty garage, that will cost at least £105+

cheers guys, decided to tow it home rather than dump it outside an unknown garage. It did indeed cost that. so bent valves eh sounds costly, so all in all with timing belt, several 100's?

Can you do it your self?
Is it petrol or diesel?, I just sorted my mums car out. The belt tensioner had given way so timing had jumped. It's should be horrendous cost if you sort your self! I'm a senior tech at ford dealer, cost me £150 to fix. Where are you based mate, if your local I could help you out!

I did a repair on my lad's Clio when it snapped the cambelt.
Total cost was £105. It had bent one valve.

However, gaskets for a Focus might be more costly.......

Can you do it yourself?

depends if your any good with spanners?
I'm guessing as you dont know what a timing belt is, then the answer to that could be no?
Timing belt runs around the camshaft pulley's and the crankshaft pulley, has a tensioner and idler pulley's in there too.Think on that engine it also drives the water pump.
It's probably the most important moving part of your engine, and if it has failed then i would have thought bent valves, maybe more, hard to say without looking at it.
If your not confident then dont do it yourself, if it has indeed got bent valves then the cylinder head is going to have to come off, valves replaced, maybe skimmed, new gasket set, new head bolts ( if your doing it by the book) timing belt kit, tensioners, maybe a water pump.
Quite an involved job!

I'm vauxhall trained, so not 100% sure when it comes to fords, but dont think they are that different
