Forged Engine Rebuild Log
This is going to be a log of the engine rebuild on my 2001 WRX that Eclipse Performance are doing for me. Thought that some people may find it interesting and they'll be plenty of photos.
Unfortunately the previous owner of my car had fitted some mods without getting the car mapped, so it ran lean and engine decided it had enough on new years eve, what a start to 2012!
Due to my age, insurance is too much on an STi and impossible if I upgrade the turbo so for the time being the car will be mapped to 280ish and then when I'm 25 and can go with a specialist insurer like Keith Michaels, the power can be cranked right up! As well as the build, there will be a few extras like prosport dials, STi Spoiler and possibly some brakes and suspension too.
The actual condition of the car seems very good so thought it made sense to rebuild rather than buy another.
Anyway here's the first pic - New crankshaft, fitted with the ACL Race series big end bearings and Eagle con rods. ACL Race Series main bearings, Weisco Pistons (0.5 Oversize), uprated oil pump, multilayer head gaskets, oil filter and closed deck block freshly bored out to 92.5mm to take the oversize pistons.

They're actually in Sunderland so couldn't be much further away however Chris the owner was very helpful and arranged for a truck to collect it. Apparently they collect cars from all over the country quite regularly.

Back in August when I first got the car I planned on keeping it standard and when the engine blew up, I wasn't too sure whether to keep this one or go for an STi but I now plan on keeping the car for quite a while and modifying it extensively so I figure it doesn't matter that much whether it's a WRX or STi and that's my justification for spending quite a lot of money on the rebuild. Lots of man maths involved

Sorry for the lack of updates, didn't manage to get as many pictures in the end as the rebuild was tight for time due to having to source a load of shims.
Here are a couple more pictures though.
Car is now complete with forged CDB engine, remapped, new tein suspension springs, decat up pipe, STi spoiler, JDM STi lights on their way. Uprated fuel pump and standard airbox going on shortly just to improve airflow a little.
Sorry this thread wasn't a bit more interesting, I'll upload a few final pictures once it's had a good clean!

There is a performance garage in the estate behind The Brook pub. Never used them but drove past and saw some flash cars there. They also have a dyno. Cadnam garage are also supposed to be good. Ever used either of these?
