Default diff advice r160/r180

afternoon all....

ok so recently i bought a dccd box + diff for my type r. i have since fitted the box and diff ...
with it been a 98/99 type r i belive it has the r180 hubs and driveshafts, now im wondering if the person who sold me the box and diff sold me a r160 instead of a r180 ..
basicly the ends of the driveshaft fit inside the diff but the driveshafts seem to be on the short side, basicly not long enough as u can almost pull the driveshaft out of the diff... i dont really want to have to buy another diff unless i have to as the r180 is a few hundred pounds ish..

is the r180 much wider than the r160 ??

i think the driveshaft just sits in the diff but is there really nothin that holds the driveshaft to the diff ...

would r180 driveshafts fit in a r160 diff, as i said the driveshafts fit the diff but the driveshafts seems to be on the short side im guessin as its a r160 diff

any help would be great as i cannot drive the car till i get this issue sorted .. cheers

the R180 has larger driveshafts, than the R160, they would just float in the diff, so he has not given R160 shafts with R180 Diff.

the Diff casing is also larger on the R180

Std driveshafte do not go into the diff very far, only the drivers side Shaft on a LSD is longer than the passenger side.

R180 shafts will not fit to R160 hubs on a car either.

all that holds the shaft in the diff is a Snap ring which is located a few cm from the end of the shaft.

thanks for the info ... but im at a loss ..the snap ring is not touching the diff its falling short as i cannot push the driveshaft in any further.

as i said its a type r, the standard driveshafts and hubs where already inplace and came with the shell when i bought it ... i just bought the box and diff seperat

also somthing is def not right when i can pull with my hand and almost compleatly pull the driveshaft out of the diff apart from a cm or 2

any ideas

cheers

Just a thought but does it still have any of the snap rings/circlips inside the diff?

fixed

The driveshaft needed a tap with a hammer on the axle side, inside the diff there is a c-clip that holds the driveshaft inplace ... which is what i must of been hitting but not hard enough to pass it ..
