Default Brake fluid change...how often?

As title really. How often should you change the brake fluid? The car only does a few thousand miles a year and is not used for track days etc.
What grade also, cheers in advance

Use DOT 4 or DOT 5.1. only really needs changing every 2 or 3 years unless your racing.

Do NOT use DOT 5. To use this you would need to flush and its no good for vehicles with abs. Its used more in old classic cars. Plus DOT 5.1 has a higher boiling point anyway. DOT 5 will not mix with any other brake fluid.

So does 5.1 mix ok with dot 4 then? Was wondering if it actually makes any difference?

5.1 will mix with dot 3 and dot 4. The odd one out is dot 5 which will not mix.

DOT 5 is silicone based
DOT 3, 4 and 5.1 is Polyethylene glycol base.

The difference in Dot 3, 4 and 5.1 is its boiling point. The higher number having the higher point so better.
