Smell of burning oil when using the loud pedal too much
Hello all,
I am a new member to ScoobyNet. I joined recently as I have finally popped my flat four cherry after years of '*****-footing' around!
I am aware scoobys and problems come hand in hand but 2 weeks in for my first one is, if anything, impressive!
I am getting a distinct smell of burning oil through my air vents just after giving it the beans... I think this is a leaky rocker cover? cam seal?... That is the feeling I am getting from the other threads I have read..
The car is a 99 (T) Type-R STI...
I assume this is an easy fix?... I am not a mechanic but know of a few and have a dabble when I am feeling brave... could this be fixed roadside with the right tools?...
Any tips would be appreciated!
Thanks

Probably the drivers side rocker cover as it drips and lands on the exhaust heat shield. Have a look down with a torch and you should see tell tale signs. If it is the gaskets get a good quality and complete set of gaskets and take your time as its not a difficult job. Its generally thought that if one side is leaking then the other side is not far behind but I would probably leave it till it started to leak if it was me

Good News!! Well. As good as it gets!
@ Einstien RA - How weird you should say that, I have heard lots of good reports about Andy and he checked the car over when I first bought it! Obviously this wouldnt have been seen anyway, I had already booked it in there for tomorrow!
Top guys down there, spoke to a chap called Jack who was very helpfull too.
Thanks all for the tips, sounds like it makes sence to get both sides done at once... work out best in the long run

I've been trying to put mine on my avatar for ages but it never appears there.
Not sure what I'm doing wrong but to attach them to the thread is pretty easy.Just upload them to photobucket and copy the img code, then paste it into the reply in the thread.
There's probably other ways but I'm a bit thick when it comes to this kind of stuff.
Danny.

Thanks Danny,
It's just ticked over to 58k (miles). They guy I bought it off had put on some bigger injectors, stainless (not sure if there is a cat - will look tomorrow on the ramp), the obliatory dump valve and remapped... As my first one I am happy with the power... but already becoming itchy for more

I know what you mean.I've had mine 7 months now and it was completely standard, even the exhaust.I said to myself I'm keeping it original. Then I thought ok and exhaust won't do any harm. Then I figured the brakes could do with a refresh so I've picked up better brakes to go on next week.
Now I want a bit more power so hopefully pick up a decent clutch next month, then get a little more power over the summer months.
Once you do a couple of mods it gets very addictive.
