TURBO CHANGE, IS IT EASY? ANY TIPS?
im hoping to change my turbo over at the weekend from tdo4 to vf28. are there any guides out there or tips from people who have done it there selves? i found a p1 guide but no sure if its the same here...
http://www.p1woc.co.uk/forums/archiv...p/t-19672.html
i have never tackled something like this before, is it wise to try and do myself or get some one to do it?

make sure u have ur breaker bar hander !! Just don't round the nuts or ur gonna need a angle grinder ... If the turbo hasn't been off b4 it's gonna b a nightmare job from my past exp .... And as joz says make sure u use a 6 point socket.
Hopefully it will go nice and smooth fingers crossed

it is simple if you have the right tools to get you out of the s**t when the nuts dont come undone.
i like to warm the car a little to get some heat through the nuts/bolts first then a good douse with wd40 to get the job going, i find they crack a lot easier with a 2ft breaker bar

If you had a new car just a month or so out the factory, it is "easy". As noted by others here, the problem that makes it a real PIA is old rusted nuts and bolts.
The turbo heat shield 10 mm bolts usually sheer off in my experince. This is not a big issue as you can run without the heat shield and many people do so.
The worst nut is the bottom one connecting the turbo to the downpipe (14 mm) and cannot easily be seen from above. Very hard to get a breaker bar to it and as noted by many people, do not round the nut otherwise you'll be looking for a small angle grinder and working from under the car.
WD40 and heat from a good blow torch plus plasters and burn cream is what I've found to be useful in the past :-)

thanks for your faith? if its really difficult i wont attempt it. im trying to get advise before i do it. if its just bolts and pipes to remove and fit, il be ok wont i?
i work at bwm building engines everyday so im not a complete novice. just never tackled removing a turbo. dont want to spend £££ on some1 doing it cuz i guess it wont be cheap.

It's only about 8 to 10 nuts to remove, turbo to down pipe & turbo to up pipe once these are removed then there is a few bits of pipe work to disconnect then it should be free,
Tbh I think what most people are saying is that its a absolute **** of a job unless u have a new car, the nuts will be rusted on and a absolute nightmare to remove unless u are 1 of the lucky 1's, generally easier to let som1 else do it
Keep us up to date if u decide to do it urself
