Default another will this be adequate thread! lol

hello fellow subaru owners!

okay i have a turbo 2000, my98, looking to get the car remapped in a few months, have roughly decided on what i need to get to get my 320bhp im hoping for..

also, the car has 105k miles, but managed to trace up the owner who owned it from 40k to 82k, it 1st owner from 0-40k, 2nd owner i spoke to, 3rd owner has had stamps from a subaru garage upto 95k its now on 105k, but has history so i am assuming she has been looked after, which is a result, as the only way i got in contact with the owner from 40k - 82k ish, was i was looking at the service book and noticed in the light on the front where someone had written a note on top it had engraved the serice book on the front! it was a checklist for the car, and it had a mobile number!! lol result! he know everything about the car even the alloys on it are the same as 40k! speedlines!

anyway enough waffling..

I have decided on:

*iridium plugs heat 7
*front mount or even a TMIC from later sti
*td05-16g
*RCM induction kit
*Complete 2.5" exhaust system, downpipe, centre pipe, backbox etc.. (bought 2.5" without knowing about 3"! lol)
*440's
*Apexi or simtek not sure yet(Depends on funds! ha!)
*255 pump
*3 port boost solonoid.

is there anything i have missed?

Many thanks!

I made 320/300 on my 98 sti type r with a green panel filter, 3 inch decat system, standard tmic, walbro pump, fpr running standard pressure and a power fc and standard vf24. I also ported my standard headers and uppipe but wether that made any difference I don't know and It was mapped by JGM.
So I can't see why not mate

this may be a thick question but i thought the headers made the subaru burble not the flat 4 engine, i always assumed if i got the headers ported etc it would change the sound of the car is that right, which obviously i love the sound? or is that equal headers?

many thanks.

Sounds like a good solid spec for 320bhp without a problem.

The headers make the burble because they are unequal length, and the burble is only reduced when equal length headers are installed instead. So porting the headers won't make you loose the burble!

Incidentally, the Apexi has very basic boost control, so if you can stretch to the Simtek then definitely get one if you can as the facility for full customisable boost control, twin maps, mafless and more is well worth it.

I could do with a simtec for my build but I should be ok with the apexi for 400?
Porting the headers won't make a difference to the burble mate

note taken about the simtek!,

another quick one, ive been reading on numerous scuby forums, about people who have the same spec, and dont expect to make 300bhp? i know people say dont look at the figures and just expect, but i want my 320-330hp, why would i not be able to achieve this with the setup above, is it something to do with obviously if the engine can take it when its getting tuned? what possible reasons would it not be able to handle it?

many thanks, Jamie.

Like you say, condition of the engine, condition of the turbo charger, the mapper etc etc it could be a number of reasons why it wouldn't make that power.

As above really, it's fairly easy to get the torque, but it's fairly hard to make the power on a turbo that is in less than good condition. Everything works against power at the top end, but funnily enough, most mappers will spend all their time tuning the top end predominantly and not focusing on what else can be extracted for the overall performance.

10-20bhp can easily be lost by a tired turbo generating too much heat on full boost.

JDC1 what turbo are you going to run? The Apexi gives you only one boost target and duty, so unless the turbo is efficient all the way through it's range at one boost target then you won't get the maximum out of the turbo. It will be underworked, or over-worked dependant on how it is mapped. It's a compromise, but works well enough most of the time none the less.
