Question Solid/vented disks

Hi folks

I have fitted on the rear of my car pair of solid standard disks with calipers etc. I have a psare set of vented disks and calipers im my workshop that came off of my old imported WRX.

What I would like to know is could I change the solid set up for the vented set up and if so would it just be a straight change over or is there any modifications needed to make them fit?

Oh and these are for an early classic (94 wagon).

Thank you

Pretty sure its a straight swop as long as their 266mm disks. Standard 1pot calipers?

They are but I had heard that the calipers from solid disks were not wide enough to go over the vented disks, so just trying to find out for sure

Thanks for that though

On my M.Y97 UK turbo the vented discs were to thick to fit in the grove on the solid type caliper ,but if you have the vented rear calipers as well i think they should fit .as long as the center of the disc(bit with the hand brake shoes in ) is the same profile cos i think that varies pending what rear beam is on your car bud

for single pot rears.

if your car came from factory fitted with vented disks then it will run solid disks BUT once pad wear gets to a certain level the pad will pop out and you end up with no brake pedal as i found out lucky i was only doing 5mph

previous owner had stuck solids on mine, i was none the wiser until the pad popped and the pedal hit the floor!

To fit vented discs you will need the vented type calipers , you cannot fit the vented discs into a solid type caliper.
The vented discs and calipers will fit straight onto your car
Cheers Ian

Just to add you CANNOT fit solid discs on vented calipers as the pads will fall out , seen it with my own eyes with people asking me to have a look ' at the funny noise off the brakes ' !!

I had the same issue as Gambit...

A previous owner of my car put solid discs on the back when it had vented as std (year 2000), I came up to a round-about at a fair rate only to hear a clonk from the back and a total loss of brake pedal

As Ian & the guys said - what happened was that the pad fell out of the caliper and I only got pedal back when the pad carrier hit the disc !
