Wouldn't use anything less than a 10w / 40.

Sure that's what I used to use on the wifes Classic sport.

Mag 5/30 is fine as this is what it says in my castrol book at work. The edge oil is basically like an upgraded oil but unless you thrash the engine wouldnt really warrant the extra expense. This is the oil in my newage sport.

I thought you meant manatec (green bottle) 5w/30?

Sure Edge is GTX re-branded with a aiding agent?

Would have thought on 10w/40 and being a classic its safe guarding the engine.

Edge is their premium oil, they still do GTX in 10/40 and 15/40 variants

Why would you want to when the your Subaru owners manual recommends 5W/30.

Stick it in, you'll be fine.

WOW, so technical.

A lower viscosity of 5 when cold, for good protection on cold starts and a higher viscosity of 30 to protect the engine in ambient temperatures of excess of 30 degrees celsius, perfect for your non-turbo.

Stick it in.

It's okay, but I would use the 10w-40 unless the car is somewhere pretty cold.

Cheers

Do you think that he is likely to experience ambient temperatures in excess of 30 degrees celsius in the UK this winter then?

Plus the lower viscosity of 5W will give you better protection during cold starts.

The owners manual recommends 5W/30, so whats the problem?
