Default Steam from bonnet ??

Hi all
Can anyone help ref my 2001 bug?
I got to work today and noticed steam coming out from the front of my car and out the scoop but I just put it down to the heat from the engine in this cold weather, but I come back home and it did the same and opened my bonnet to discover coolant had sprayed everywhere all the engine bay !
My temperature is still running normal but it seems to be steaming from the rad but it's not dripping anywhere underneath ??
Anyone have ideas or advise on to check anything specifically ?
😣

split hose, or could be a split in the rad. dont drive it till you find where it is, hole will only get bigger and loose all the coolant which is bad.

Check pressure cap or look to see if a stone has punctured the rad

As already mentioned stop driving the vehicle until the problem is solved otherwise you risk over-heating the car and damaging headgasket or worse.

Hi Jpc

Coolant is escaping, as others have replied. Diagnose fault and repair do not keep driving as I am sure you will.

If it turns out it is not a simple diagnosis then find yourself a pressure testing kit and pressurise the cooling system. Obviouse could be anything from simple fault to headgasket failure.

Any advise or help feel free to contact me.

Kind regards

Stephen.

Soz wrote wrong.

Diagnose fault and repair do not keep driving (as I am sure you will). Meant to put as I am sure you will understand.

Kind regards

What you need to do is open the bonnet and get the engine hot: run it at 1500-2000 rpm, watch the rad and especially the top hose.
When mine did this it was a TINY split in the top hose that only just gave out a tiny spray when the system was pressurised, hit the block and steam everywhere.

But first time it did it, at a traffic lights, I though the engine was on fire

Hmmmm the seam of the rad does sound a possibility as there is all coolant along the top ??
I've also a have a slight drip from the splash guard underneath on the passenger side .
I'm gonna try and get it on the ramps over Xmas to find it myself but if not its already booken in at a garage next Friday, the only ball ache is I don't wanna drive it like this so it may be sitting on my drive all week boo hoo
