Default How the hell do I get this bolt off

Hi guys, need advice as I'm feeling stuck!

Removing the downpipe the last bolt will not budge, it's the middle one at the bottom, someone has fitted a 12mm bolt, and because of the aftermarket open mouth downpipe cannot access it at all, even with stubbie wobblies etc almost got it with a 12mm spanner from ontop but you guesses it, it rounded! Tried warming the engine etc, penetrating fluid etc

Any advice??

I can't remove the turbo as downpipe needs to come off in order to get the two bolts at the far end that hold the turbo to the uppipe, these two bolts are shielded and doubt an open ended spanner will get them off, bloody nightmare this is!

Cheers for the advice, I'll try shortening an old spanner, unfortunately can't take it to a specialist as it needs to be mot'd and I was in the process of fitting a STD downpipe to get it through the mot, I'll sort it somehow...

Try getting a file at it to square the edges on it first then like you said get a 11mm socket on to it. Feel for you dude sounds like a nightmare

some of the answers on here
i did one for a mate once who loves his anti lag.all the nuts had litteraly welded themselves on.i had to heat every nut up and then chop through them and split them in half.a lot easier if you can get under the car via a ramp or pit.if not good luck.

Cheers for all the advice, think I'll give this one a try first, and if this doesn't work get destructive! Lol

A nut splitter may or may not work as it's a bolt head that's protruding, ie it's a bolt that winds into the turbo rather than a stud and nut if you know what I mean.

Going to have another go at it this morning. I hate it when people don't fit things properly, they look like cheap bolts and if he had only put a couple of thick washers on when fitting it I wouldnt have had a problem.

It will come off I'm sure....

I did mine at the weekend and used a stubbie ring spanner, worked a treat but this is the third downpipe in 2 years so it wasn't seized Got at it from underneath, no ramp just jacked the car and lay on my back.

It is a pretty horrendous design though as the steering rack is in just the wrong place to make access easy.

I do. Odd as should have studs and nuts on the turbo so obviously some ones done a job on it in the past

Put new nuts back on either side (with copper slip for now) and do them as tight as you dare to take away the load on the stuck bolt.
