Default GOO & GRIME

LOOKED INSIDE MY EXPANSION TANK THIS MORN , AS WAS DOING WINTER CHECK & TOP UPS ,, JEEZ IT LOOKS LIKE A SWAMP , THE MOULD ,GOO ,& GRIME REALLY TOOK ME BY SUPRISE , SO FLUSHED RADIATOR & COOLANT STRAIGHT OFF ,, PERFECT ,, NOTHING WRONG THERE ,,, SO MY Q ,,, WHY IS THE EXPANSION TANK THIS DIRTY & DAMN RIGHT MESSY ? REGARDS

mate is it black gunk stick your finger in tank and rub inside expansion tnk c if its oily mine was like this ended up head gasket was away

When mine got messy, it looked like mayonnaise.

Headgaskets had gone.

To the OP: when was the last time you had tyhe collant changed? The stuff in it that makes it work, stops it corroding your engine, well that deteriorates.

HEAD GASKETS HAVENT GONE ,, IT WAS THE ORIGINAL FLUID BAR 1 ,, ON 22000 MLS , IF THE GASKETS HAD GONE WOULD HAVE SPOTTED ON RAMP AS JUST HAD HEADERS PLUGS FITTED + MAPPED ,, THEN THIS MORN WOULD OF SHOWED SIGHNS IN THE COOLANT ? HOWEVER IM NOT DISREGARDING YOUR THEORY JUST YET , IV CLEANED & STEAMED THE TANK SPOTLESS NOW , IT WAS A LITTLE OILY IN TEXTURE BUT MORE MOULD HARD BLACK,GREEN GOO WOULD BE THE WAY I DESCRIBE IT ,, WASNT NICE THO , EITHER WAY

JST SPOKE WITH A LOCAL SUBARU GARAGE OVER PHONE - THEY ARE SAYING SAME AS YOU ALCAZAR , WOULD BE MORE WHITE,YELLOW IF IT WAS A HEAD ISSUE , POSS THE BREAK UP OF CHEMICALS IN THE ADDITIVE , , BOUGHT THE CAR WITH 14000 , FIRST CHANGE WAS 20000 & THEN TODAY , 20000 WAS DONE AT SUBARU GARAGE , THEY MAY NOT HAVE EVEN APPROACHED THE EXPANSION TANK ? ,, SO IM GUESSING THIS IS THE JUNK ,DEBRIS LEFT FROM THE FIRST BATCH ,, WILL CHECK WEEKLY THO ,SEE IF ANY ISSUES OR PROBLEMS ARISE

dont know how you would tell if head gaskets wer away just by it bein on a ramp mate if theres oil in your expansion tank its gettin in there somehow ie past the head gasket just keep eye on your blowers if they stop blowin hot air and temp is up then youl know for sure hopefully its just the coolant breaking down as said
