tapping again help please

Default tapping again help please

hello i have just changed my little end bearings would it be possible for them to tap for a couple of hundred miles or is that just normal

they shouldnt really wear mate , ive hardly seen any that go tapping noise is more likely piston slap or lifter noise i would assume ???

answer to the question is no they shouldnt tap

mine and a few of my mates scoobies have started tapping from cold lately due to the drop in temps and piston slap.is there any noise once properly warmed up???

ye once its warm its still tapping but not on tickover its only tapping when driving and i really cant place anything on it ive replaced the small end bearings and checked everything else its all fine

just puzzled now as to what it can be all the lifters are fine checked them

hmmmm , teeth chattering due to cold weather??

is it a loud tap/ mild tick/ rattle ??

its not an overly loud tap but noticiable

nope its my small end bearings again gonna just buy a engine i think and use my one- for spares

You are better off using brand new uprated parts that way you know it's done properly.

ye i used acl race bearings but dont think it was done correct as a slight rev and its all banging again so any reccomendations on where to get a recon engine or another engine would be appreciated

pete@s/e imprezas on here.just had an engine off him and great to deal with.good motor at good price delivered nice and quickly

Very unusal for the small end bearings on these engine to wear to the extent that they will make a tapping noise. More likely to be the big ends if indeed it is the bearings at all.

That will be the big ends then and not the small ends as they dont have 'bearing shells'.
What was the measured oil clearances of the big ends and mains when you did it ??
