Heavy modified...but where should it be rated
Help guys
I have picked up my 06 STI from my Tuner and the car is just about making 400 hp and roughly 540nm....well that would sound o.k. but knowing what my mods are...would you also expect that result
To give you an idea of what has been done here some details. I would appreciate any feedback from the comunity as that helps me to find the missing horses...
Shortblock: CP pistons, H-Beam Rods, ARP studs, ACL bearings, Cosi-high volume oil pump and sump baffle.
Heads: In/out 1mm oversized valves, BC springs and Ti-retainers, 252 Tomei Poncam....and now it comes, Fully ported by Ric Wood of CNC-Heads UK, 1.1m Cosi gasket, TGV deletes, 8mm Phenolic spacers for the TGV, AMR TMIC with Zerosport Airspliter ( I need the TMIC to maintain an OEM look as close as possible, don't start the thread with you should have done this with a FMIC...cheers)
Fuel: Perrin Fuel Rail, 850cc Detschwerks Inj, 300Lph Fuel pump, Aeromotive fuel pressure regulator, plus an extra 340 lph fuel pump integrated into the fuel catchtank
ECU: Ectuek racerom
Turbo: Turbo Dynamics MD555....the 500hp rated trubo
Cold air 3" Big Maf intake
Exhaust: APS equeal lenght, Catless 3" kakumei Turboback....Watercooler, Engine oilcooler and Gearbox oilcooler....actully more then enough
So knowing that do you think this car should be doing? Am I do ambitious with the expected results or is there more to achieve out of this set up. I was aming at a good 450hp with close to 580nm...but not sure if I just a dreamer or not.
So guys...please feed me with your feedback.
Thanks and have a great weekend.

sounds like pretty low boost to try and achieve 500bhp, why don't you go back to your tuner and discuss it with them ? is this a fresh engine build, maybe your tuner has held it back for a few miles ?
Well I had quite an argument about that and according to him he says that the Turbo can't deliver more boost as the Engine is not delivering enough "gas". I have done about 8000 km since I started with the engine build...since then swaped the Turbo from a 20G to the MD so I don't think he's holding back...I slowly have the feeling he can do standard Ectutek but as soon as huge engine builds come up then he's lost...
Sounds like you have lost any confidence in him, maybe get another opinion from another tuner. Is the tuner a subaru specialist?? Looks like you,ve spent a lot of money.
Out of interest what power did your tuner expect before he started??

well the aim was to get to 450...but as you just mentioned I somehow lost confidence in his work. So if there is someone around in this Forum that has more or less the same mods would you let me know what results you have achived with it.

Could it not be The case that It's at It's limits and holding the fueling/boost levels back.? I'm definitely no expert when it comes to these things but you never know, I'll probably stand to be corrected though
Considering the standard engine is good for 400 bhp all day long....
You will get a million questions on here and you won,t know all the answers...
I would say take it to one of the subaru specialist like scoobyclinic for instance and get them to have a look and take it from there..
Sorry just seen your not in uk..

I should also mention that I still have a new Solaris S6 with Loom Adaptor and the 8 map rotary swtich...that's why I was thinking of JGM or Zen..to map that ECU.
Would it make more sense to swap the Turbo to a smaller one e.g. looking at the TOMEI M8265...seems to have a nice powerband?

there obviously a bottle neck in the system, and although you say dont mention it my guess is intercooler is the issue. It will be limiting timing and prob ment tuners had to pull boost back.
That cold be obviously the main reason...but how many others around the planet are trully qouting 450? Andy seems to have somehow achived that? So question to all those runing a set up similar like I have with TMIC what are your results?
top mounts struggle after 400, after that heat soak, higher temps cos of poor airflow etc becomes an issue.
The engine spec is for 450 bhp is over the top, you did'nt need cams, 1mm oversize valves or porting for that, but as already mentioned it must be running very conservitive boost/ign etc, as a near std 2.5 STI on a SC46 & top mount will do those figures.
inst 1.5bar the limit on some of the standard map sensors (not sure if that is applicable to your year car tho) unless you have a problem, your fuel system should flow more than enough for your power target, i run 850cc injectors with a walboro and a bosch 044 and use methanol and i made over 500bhp with fueling to spare, defiantly sounds like you need to find a new tuner or have a trip to the UK and use ours !
I dont know how efficient the AMR TMIC is, but it may be a limiting factor. I use a TMIC and get well over 500 without issue. You should be able to get 400 with a std newage TMIC. Do you have a temp sensor on the cooler? If not, get one and monitor the intake temps you are getting. That will tell you if it's efficient.
800cc injectors are more than up to the job too. I use 800s.
There are a few friends of mine with cars from Austria that have come over to the UK for work and mapping so maybe you could do the same. I use Bob Rawle for my mapping and found him to be the best for my purposes. He will travel too if you wanted.
But, having said all that, what you haven't done is said how the car feels and drives. Don't get hung up on figures. There are so many cars out there running 450, 500, 550, or whatever that just aren't. Or they have poor power delivery and driveability.
How does yours drive and feel?

I reckon the boost and ignition has been pegged back because of the TMIC.
The mapper will be able to tell you though. Otherwise that certainly seems like a 450bhp+ specification. Would also add an oil cooler to that if you haven't already though.

You need to find out what your Intake temps are (measured between TMIC & TB) If these are too high then the tuner wouldn't increase boost and will stay on the safe side.
IMO you still need more boost to see your required power on a dyno but dont get carried away chasing numbers as you could go to a different dyno and get the figure you want.

@ JB1 Will the ride is somehow o.k. but I can feel that the pull drops of after 6000 RPM and it seems that the Turbo ist runing out of Air. This though does not mean the Turbo is the problem but I truely have the feeling my maper is just no the best if it comes to my car. Speed Techniques in the US just did a car with over 500 hp and the guy (although I'm none of his customer quoted that the AMR TMIC could do handle with e85 and meth up to 600, although I don't belive that but that's what they quote) said the same, look for a new mapper.
@petedotuk I will install a intake temp sensor to check out the temps. Hope not to bad as I will then run out of any further error source...
Thanks by the way to all of you for your great feedback and emails.
Cheers
