Default My 02 sti running 330 bhp

I am currently running the above bhp and car runs nice but would like more, maybe 400 bhp but with stock internals at the mo,cant afford 1500 pounds for an md type turbo so whats my best options with regards to quick spool, driveability, not overly fussed about top end as never really do those speeds so would rather get to 70 or 80 mph faster than trying to beat the land speed record ! Lol. Also i do about 60 - 70 miles per week so it rarely gets abused.i know ill have to look after clutch at this power but as said ill take it easy with the launches,

Spec at the mo( nowt special )

Full 3 inch decat from turbo.
Walbro fuel pump
Green panel filter
Ngk 7's
Ecutec map

Also have suspension mods
Bc coilovers
Whiteline rear arb and droplinks
Anti lift kit
Bump steer kit
Front solid droplinks
Full geometry at chevron motorsport
Pff7 alloys with 235 40 18 vreidsteins

Will i need any other items at all, will most likely get headers but what type im not sure flow my ones or get aftermarket ? Think my injectors will be ok ?
Any advise or reccomendations will be greatfull.

Perhsps look at getting a closer ratio gearbox which will make better use of what you have?

Would be my choice too Simon, but they aren't a whole lot cheaper @ £1245 + vat, so the man's best option that he can afford might be the SC40 which is nearly £300 less.

Any answers to- do i need fuel pressure reg or standard one ok?
Will 3 port be needed or is oe one ok ?
Whats the best option with regards to headers, equal unequal or mine flowed and matched ?
Top mount may have to stay unless i can source a good low price front mount.
Cheers carl.

I suspect you will need at least 650cc injectors and then you should be OK without the FPR or you can use your 550cc with FPR,but still think you can buy now cheaply WRX injectors and get them modified to 800cc and then should be OK for your desired bhp..

You have 3-port or you don't have?If you have OE 3-port i would stick with OE 3-port

At 400bhp you will be all right with yours current, but i would ask Harvey for advice,if you want go for headers i would go with GT Spec plus Harvey up pipe.

Top mount will be all right, but i would go at least with Harvey Hybrid GT or Japspeed one which seems is all right.

About the turbo,i would go with SC42 or SC46,MD321T will be great too on yours STI with AVCS

I had the same turbo dilema as you mate, i wanted a fast spooling unit that made the most of the midrange as in the past i have found with larger turbo's you would end up at licence losing speeds just so that you could make peak boost and the setup would be over-kill for my needs. I had planned on a decent 20G with tubular headers, bigger injectors and a Fmic but after doing reading up on here and having a chat with my mapper i decided on a VF48 and using a meth mix. I retained to topmount and pink injectors and went for a set of ported headers and a matched up-pipe from Harvey and to be honest it makes for a rapid car. I plan on starting again in the new year with either a new car or or a new spec for this one as i fancy going down the LM400/450 twin scroll route next with a splash of meth

Thanks guys, does the 48 pull 400 ish bhp and is this turbo from hatchback sti ? Heard of a guy running a wrx with one i think.

Whats spool like on our cars with say headers and no meth, cant afford 1000 pounds up for turbo on daily drive so may look into these, thanks.

No the VF48 wont reach 400 mate but you will see a huge improvement in spool with the headers fitted too
