Default MAF trouble

hi
ive just come to terms with the fact that im goin to lose out alot of money on my once pride and joy, this is a mix between needing to get rid of it, due to financial difficulties and people not willing to spend in our current economic climate...
please go easy on me

MY97 STI

i have purchased new MAF and a used ICV as directed by on board diagnostic, fitted, reset ecu. yet still im having the same problem, i.e. spluttering and 1500 rpm idle, which can be very eratic at times.
anyway got the car home and 24 check light again

im completely lost now, any ideas??
i have cleaned throttle body, done lambda, throttle position and temp sensors. new MAF, which is third in as many months, although other 2 were used but cleaned sufficiently. the ICV was properly cleaned. ive put in new plugs with correct gaps.

im guessing my only option left is to get her hooked to a proper diagnostic machine

From what i have heard certain dump valaves can be an issue with idling issues but just whilst the car is stationary, have you checked all the air pipes for any cracks etc?
