Default Where is the cat on a 1996 v limited

Where should the cat be located on a 1996 wrx v limited? I assumed it would be on the straight between the turbo and back box! The only place I can see what looks like a cat is on the downpipe before the turbo. I'm only assuming it's the cat because it has a lambda sensor in it. What do ya recon??
Cheers for any help!

no, a catalyst is NOT required for an mot, not for your car anyway,.... as long as it passes the emissions you are ok,

Erm yes it is. Its 1993 K reg for UK cars, and 1st June 1995 for Import cars.
And as of 1st Jan 2012 any UK car that had a cat fitted when new MUST have one, not having one will result in a fail regardless if it passes an emissions test.

EEERRRM no the op asked whether he should have a cat for the mot . well the answer is no. there is no reason for rejection if the vehicle does not have an actual cat fitted.

Lol, New bits have a line next to them!!
And more to the point I`ve not known an Impreza pass an emissions test without a car, as most barely pass with one.

If the car was fitted with a cat originally (this also applies to cars dating back to about 1989 in the uk even though the cat law didnt come in till 93) is that it is required to be fitted for the MOT or it could be seen as a failure.
Some garages are nice and will let you off if your car passes, some wont and will reject the car due to it not being fitted.
