Default Max Engine RPM for this Engine ?

I have been looking at what turbo to go for and that search has given me another question.

I am about change my engine in my 93 WRX to a P! block with STI 4 heads. So the engine is essentially an STI with V10 Rods in.

What would be the rev limit ?

Am I right in thinking I have a higher RPM ?

Id imagine the ECU will be limiting your revs anyway but the power tends to drop off way before the red line so most Impreza drivers dont get that close to it anyway,
your best bet is once its fitted to strap it on a rolling road and see where the power drops off, this is where you want to be changing gear not 7 or 8k say.

I was thinking as it has solid lifters AKA Sti heads , do I have a higher mechanical limit, this would mean on a 20G turbo if required I could push it now and again if I needed to, most of the time I would shift at 6.5K max

Your fitting a STi engine to a WRX right? It's not that straightforward AFAIK.

Blocks are the same, as I have V1 engine, the heads will work with my inlet manifold, I plan swap all the rest onto the block.

You got me all worried, i gather that if I had used any heads later than I did it will have been a problem with the inlet. I still think I may need new cam belt tensioner, and as i have a closed deck, I need an extra water pipe , I do however have a good pal of mine doing the swap and although he did not build the engine, he has built a few and the two engines will be next to each other on the stand , so ther is no rush If I need extra parts. Engine is from Andy Williams, well respected , just need a new g.box soon lol

P1 rods will be the same as your classic ones, dont know where you get v10 from, no such thing.
Anyway a p1 engine is exactly the same as any v5/v6 sti, then your post 7 gets a little confusing so are you removing your cdb and getting it rebuilt or are you adding the parts out of the v5 sti engine? (which is open block but it doesnt really matter, neither engine will stress the block on standard internals unless you push the engine too much and then the piston will stress the exterior of the engine when it pops out )

I may have the rods mixed up, its a new set of STI 2009 items, I thought this was V10 STI ? I am taking the CDB out and putting the other engine. As it has STI pistons I think the top limit of the engine will be about 400BHP, as it has the later rods, just woundering if the Solid lifter heads with cams will allow for higher RPM.

Ahh I thought you were planning on dropping the whole lot in, my fault for not reading it properly.

Did you but this off me? Dont rev it over 3000rpm............only joking, the main thing that is limiting on these engines is cast pistons and std rods, as you have forged pistons and later type rods it should be safe to 8K, however unless you have a huge turbo and ported heads with big cams it's pointless revving it that hard. Power spread is usually 3500-7000 on most engines with std cams and revving it harder just overheats the turbo and everything else for that matter.

Yip, its one of youres LOL, I was just thinking 20G and then I can set RPM at say 7.8K and just get the extra out to exploit the turbo.

Now looking for ECU's

Many thanx for the replys
