Default UK 2.0 STI - 370/380bhp - Minimal Lag

I am currently running approx 340bhp on my STI, and want a bit more power.

I'm not too fussed about breaking the 400bhp barrier, 370-380ish will be fine.

What is more important is how the car drives. I don't want any more lag than the standard VF35 really.

What would be your suggestions?

Needs be on a fairly restrictive budget, as i'm supposed to be paying for a wedding next year, and unfortunately have a nice bill for 2 wedding rings next week.... so please take that into account!

I'll be looking to go for 450bhp(ish) once the wedding is out the way, so only need this turbo as a stop-gap for about a year.

TD05 18G with a matched up-pipe.......if you are looking to reduce lag. add a touch of meth in each tank if you want a bit more top end. Mine ran 378 on a good day

Gary, i had a VF30, 20g and FP green all on my 2ltr.

Trust me mate, the 20g isnt laggy at all. I swear people are smoking crack when they talk about lag. Drive a T4 equiped cossie if you wanna know what lag feels like lol.

20g will be perfect and hit your targets without meth or any other fannying about.

What about a billet 20g?? I'd probably say the SC36 billet is a more sensible choice money permitting.

Stick 20% meth in and get it mapped. Might get an extra 20-30bhp without any additional lag.

Thanks guys, looks like it'll be a 20g.

I'm doing quite a few miles in the car at the moment, so meths isn't practical really.

One of the SC ones would be good, but not any second hand ones around, and i'll be going for a MD321T next year, so dont want to spend much on a temporary turbo

Save your money mate and do it one go otherwise you'll be paying for turbo installation and mapping twice!! Thats about £700 in it's self.

Replaced my VF35 with a 20G, far far better turbo in every respect IMO.

20g is a sweet turbo but iam running a 2.5l and it kicks in at 3k ( 1 bar ) 1.4 bar at 4k, id imagine its a bit later on a 2.0 but still well worth it

As above, I just fitted td05 18g (harveys ) and it is lush....tiny bit later ( about 250-300 rpm ) but pulls like a train, if its driveability you want and not supposed rr figures then the 18g is more than adequite of putting a big smile on ones face !!

2nd hand 20g will meet Moley's requirements i..e. for price and power.

But as said, he might be a bit 'disappointed' at the spool WHEN COMPARED to his VF35. But don't be put off - it's not stupidly laggy, or anything like that.

2nd hand 18g will meet his price and have greater spool-up... but... may 'only' make 360 (mapped on V-P only).

Decisions, decisions.....

Same here, I didn't feel any lag with mine on a 2.0L, I suspect the ones who complain of lag have been tight ar$es and bought Ebay jobbies.

I know there are better turbos on the market nowadays for the performance your looking for but pound for pound the 20G just cannot be over looked price wise.

Agreed - I love my 20g for what it is (bearing in mind it cost me only c.£370). A UK one fully rebuilt and ported etc. Still going strong since API fitted it last November. Pushing out 384.3bhp.

That would be the ideal turbo, but rare as rocking horse **** second hand.

Surely you must have one laying around somewhere?

Yeah...

1st choice: 2nd hand 321H (if you can find one!)

2nd: 2nd hand 'proper' 20g (more prevalent...)
