Default Lowering springs on my Bug dilemma ?

Hi all
i have got myself some Eibach lowering springs and thought it was an easy job for the average DIYer to upgrade from my standard springs but i have been advised that i should get them fitted proffesionally so i went down to my local garage and was quoted £140
Has anyone tackled this job themselves? and is it quite straight forward?
or if anyone lives close to Tamworth and fancies helping out a fellow enthusiast there will be a nice ££ show of appreciation

Mate I fitted mine last week ( to my 2004 Blob ). I had never attempted a job this big before but to be honest I had been quoted £200 to fit by a garage. So I gathered as much information as I could from the web, took the day off work and had a go. Five hours later they were fitted and I was a happy boy. If you prepare well for the job there isn't anything difficult about it. Just make sure you are methodical and patient and it is pretty straight forward. You may still need to get wheel allignment after they have been fitted but if I was you I would fit the springs yourself and save the money. If I can give you any advice mate just drop me a line.

VERY easy job.

Fronts are easiest, they take 15 mins to remove and then some faffing to change the spring. Shouldn't need a spring compressor (for rears either)

Rears take a fair bit longer as you need to get at the top bolts which involves rear seat removal.

Thing to know is the top hat needs to be in correct alignment with the damper mount as the spring sits offset. There's 3 holes in the top mount the middle biggest one aligns with the bottom mount.

Eibachs are good springs, remeber you'll need a wheel alignment after wards.

By the way, £140 quid is not a bad price at all. 4 hours at 35 quid an hour sounds about right to me. I presume they would do the alignment as part of the price.

I've changed 3 sets now and say the job would take 1 man that time, two would bring that down considerably. If you're getting an alignment as well (which really the job needs) then it's stonking value
