Big thanks to Bob Rawle
for sparing the time to speak to me on the phone yesterday to diagnose the issue with my MY00 Impreza. Weird one this - two weeks ago it cut out on me,then last Friday it cut out twice on the wife on her way back from home to the point where she had to get towed to the my local garage by the RAC.
Tony (top man at ART motor engineers Wakefield) found that the supply to the fuel pump was being interupted. The car would run for 5 mins then cut out.He shorted the cylindrical fuel pump relay out - still same. The supply then goes from the relay back into the wiring loom. At this point he phoned R N Golden for advice to see if there was any other controller for the fuel pump in the system. They led him up the garden path by saying there was a fuel pump control module behind the plastic trim in the boot. Tony stripped everything out and couldn't find it. At this point I phoned a couple of specialists on here. Thanks to RCM and Bob who pinpointed that the most probable issue was the immobilser circuit. Relayed this info back to Tony who resolved the issue this morning with this info, it was a fault on the immobiliser circuit. Tony charged me £90 for the job. Top man.
