ej20 swap info required
Ok im a noob sorry about that but i have a problem maybe someone can help me with.
My car is a 1994 JDM WRX v1 STi Tommy Kaira M20B (a car i have always wanted since the days of gran tourismo 2 )
The engine is a EJ20GDW2HE it has failed it has a melted piston
I am fairly competant at changing engines i have done many types before
although i have never attempted an impreza yet.
Anyway dont want to rabbit on forever so heres the question
Are the other Ej20 engines the Ej20k and Ej205 a simple swap over as in use the inlet and exhaust manifolds off the Ej20g everything wires up right and the ecu doesnt need to be changed ect. I have been looking on ebay and there seens to be alot of confusion some say 1993-2000 some 1993-1998 then theres 1998-2000 and they are all just listed as Ej20. Can someone please let me know what needs to be done if anything to put each type in my Ej20G WRX thanks....

The inlet manifolds have changed over the years, early ones have individual coil packs, 97-98 have a central coil pack in the centre of the inlet manifold, later cars upto 2000 iirc the coil pack is slighly to the left of the inlet manifold and the Idle air control valve is moved into the throttle body assembly. Manifolds are only interchangleable when used with the correct heads as i believe the fixing holes vary slighty for model to model.
As for the ecu i will let some one who knows more explain.

i can take engines out and replace them no problem but taking them apart is not for me. is going to cost £800-£1000 to get the block rebuilt i only bought the car last week for £2000. i forgot to flick the fan switch on and killed it.

ouch maybe when u get engine sorted is to work out why the fans are not working of the original fan swith that the ecu controls rather relying on a flick switch..
