Jim,
Speed Sensor Signal 2 is the signal produced in the instrument pack for use by the engine management ECU.
The speed signal for the instrument pack is produced by the sensor screwed into the side of the gearbox.
Does your Speedo work??
If it has stopped working, this would indicate that the instrument pack has stopped receiving the signal from the gearbox sensor.
If on the other hand your speedo still functions correctly, then you have a problem with either the inst pack or a break in the wiring between the pack and the ECU.

Thanks for the replies.
Right i see . The speedo is still working so there may be an issue with wiring like you say .
Im going to try locate the speedo sensor this evening and look for wiring breaks.

I'm afraid there is no "sensor with wires" attached to the ins pack that can be removed and checked for faults... The signal is produced electronically within the inst pack itself and there are no spare parts available for these units other than bulbs and main components such as the speedo and rev counter assay's.
It sounds like you are going to need a wiring diagram and a an avo to sort this one... Unless of course you know someone with the same inst pack as you which you could borrow to plug in and see if the fault then dissapears.
I take it your engine is currently running in limp home mode with the engine management light permanently switched on?

hmmm . No it drives fine and the light appeares after a few miles then if you give it the beans the turbo cuts out at 4.5k . below this everything is fine and after 5 mins the light will go off .
I have owned the car 3 weeks and had it on the road for 2 days .
Starting to really get to me now.

This particular gearbox does not have a sensor here. It has a cable instead... Only later cars had a sensor fitted instead of a cable.
Yes correct. The sensor in the speedo (speed sensor 2) produces a signal for use by the Engine ECU when the cable from the gearbox drives the speedo needle.
If either your speedo or the mileometer are still working then the cable is ok.
If the cable or drive in the gearbox are at fault, then both the speedo & mileometer will stop working.
If your mileometer is working but your speedo has stopped, then the fault lies with the speedo assay.
Hope This Helps
