de cat or sports cat questions
Hi Everyone, i wonder if someone can help.
I have a bug 2002 wrx model and im wondering about possibly putting a decat or sports cat on the car.
I know if you put a decat on it will obviously fail the mot, however is there any difference between a sports cat and decat in respect to power gain.
Also is it just a case of taking the existing cat off and just putting the de cat or sports cat on? is there anything i would need extra?
thanks for you help

swapping for a de-cat or sports cat won't really do anything as the ECU plods on it's merry way. You need to change a few other things and then get it re-mapped for better performance and believe it or not MPG.
Panel filter is a must but I'd swap the plugs and fuel pump unless they are new (ish) given the age of the car..
The Sports cat eats up only a few BHP with the TD04 turbo so neither here nor there

Hello thanks for the advise, I was told by a mechanic that adding a Decat would add around 25-30 brake and I would not need a remap, I would only need a re-map if I changed my air filter to a sports cone induction kit so now I'm a bit confused :-/

de-catting will improve spool up and make it noisier but will not add a lot of power.
Does not strictly need a re-map but the Bug WRX was pretty crippled when it left the factory so as not to get anywhere near the STi in terms of power so responds well to improving air flow and re-mapping to release hidden torque /BHP.
Long sentence...sorry.
I've done quite a bit to my bug over the years including de-catting, then re mapping and finally swapping over quite a bit

I would defo get a remap mate if you go down this route. Decating works well with a few other bits like a panel filter. You will notice a massive difference if you get a few bits and then remap.
If you go down the sports cat, IMHO there's only one to get - MIlltek (not sure how good the prodrive ones are). Personally, I'd totally decat the thing
