Default Engine just cut-out

Hi guys, looking for some help/advice.

My engine just cut-out and wont re-start.

Engine cranks fine and has almost 'spluttered' a little like it's trying to go, but just dies again.

I don't hear the fuel pump priming when turning ignition on, so this is my most likely suspect. I have checked the connections under the rear seat (wagon) and all looks clean dry.

So what's my next step? Relays or fuses etc?

Car is a 2000 Turbo (UK) My '00. Wagon, with 99,500 mls.

Thanks.

yep youve guessed it sounds like fuel pump failure,do yourself a favour and replace it with a walbro fuel pump.nice easy swap on a wagon too.

Do you know which wire is the live to the pump, to run a 12v feed to?

Any recommendations for which pump to get, car has only a centre section exhaust as a mod. Nothing much planned for mods either.

Still needing some advice on this one if possible.

I bought a new fuel pump*, (Walbro) and fitted it, but no difference, still engine turns but doesn't fire and there is no sound of the pump priming.

Is there a relay to check?

*decided just to change the pump anyway, partly in hope that it was the problem and also for the fact it's 11 years old anyway.

The alarm is the standard Sigma.

Do you know which relay it is, I've seen the three of them, one white, one blue and one black?

Oh and how are they fixed? Don't wanna break it getting it out!

Thanks for that, not had a chance till the weeekend to check it out.

Found the relays as pictured, I took them out and tested them, all three relays work ok. But I'm not sure which one does what But they aren't 'clicking' when turning the ignition on.

Put a 12v feed direct to the pump and the pump runs and the car starts and will run.

I tried to 'ring' the live feed to the pump back to the relays under the dash, black and red wire, but couldn't find it, black and reds at the relays have 12v on them, before being switched in the relay, so I'm not sure if it's the same wires.

Does anyone have a wiring diagram?
Or know where the wires will go?

Possibility is the imobiliser is the problem, but no idea whcih wires it will be on it, or where it's located

Checked all the connections under the back seats and they all look ok, and are clean and dry.
Checked all fuses in engine bay and behind coin tray, all ok.

Just cos a relay clicks , dosent mean its ok, norm the contact responsible for the higher power side of a relay fail. Have a look at the relays and see if thay are the same , if so change them around.

Can you get to the relay? If so, identify terminal 85 and put a live feed to it, it should click, then the engine should run.

If I were you, I'd be asking someone who knows alarms to have a look. It DOES sound like that could be it And it's NOT uncommon.

I took the relays out and put a supply through the coil and tested the continuity through the switch.

What are the three relays all for?

As far as I know, from info picked up on here, there are three relays together on a bracket, two metal bodied round relays and one square brown plastic one in between the other two.

All three relays work when tested off the car.

Which relay is the one I need to put the live feed to terminal 85 of?

If they are up under the dash, I THINK one is indicators, (it will tick when they are on, you can feel it doing it).

The other two fuel pump and ????

Could be heater fan, heated rear window or foglights. AFAIK, others are under bonnet. Try them and feel relays for clicking when turning on and off.

Sorry I can't be more help.

(from info picked up on here.....)
bottom metal = fuel pump
middle brown = main relay
top metal = fog lamps
the two metal ones are the same (denso) - you could just try swapping the wires around?? (they are very difficult to get at!!!!)
