Hey,
I have bought a GC8 type R rally car,just a few tech questions i'm pondering over,
is the 5 speed box upto the job of clubman rallying?
also if i fit a hydraulic handbrake,is it possible to retro fit the diff cut off switch onto the new handbrake?
thanks guy's,

Simply transplant the switch ?
As there are rules as to what you can modify.... I guess the box will last depending on how rough you are with it...

Hey,
Yeah it's the 5 speed dccd, if it's a simple button i'm sure it's retro fitable.
So the 5 speed is no good then? Looking at 2k for a 6 speed box, any cheaper way's around it?

Where I live, even though the GC8 is out of homologation, you are still required to keep it to Group N specifications. Talk to your sanctioning body and see what they say. However the homologation book still provides for a few modifications so the handbrake might be 'free' as they term it.
In my experience, the 5 speed is adequate for a rally car, most mechanical DNFs are due to turbo, engine and suspension failure. Especially if you are rallying on gravel, the traction is not enough to seriously stress a gearbox.

we are not in Uganda so the Group N regs no longer exist for this car in the UK , I know as I have rallied one for 2 years.
I fitted an upright hydraulic handbrake to mine , fitted a new switch then wired it up to the standard handbrake switch which worked perfectly , I did have a neetronics diff controller thought.
I had a 5 speed box in mine with the Modena gear kit which is supposed to be the best available for that box , and it was always apart every 2 or 3 rallies having something done to it , if you want to be competitive , the standard box will be no good , there was a guy on here advertising a 6 speed box for a grand the other day.
If the traction wont kill the boxes , the fast hard gear changes will !

Hey,
another quick question, the car is a gravel car but I'm going to be using it on clubman single venue stuff, the car doesn't have a brake servo and has standard brakes, so I'm going to put on some Brembo sti calipers up front, but would you also put in a small servo?
thanks,
also here's some pic's of her!

im guessing you bought that car from chris cawthorne
the servo will of had the inner parts removed and replaced with a single straight bar
this is done due to the jacking open of the throttle for the anti lag
my car is set up exactly the same you will probably find the brake pedal has been redrilled about 10 mm higher up where the brake rod connects to give you a better pivot on the brake pedal
leave it how it is regarding the servo it works fine

Once on stage you won't need the servo. I drove a group N car without the servo and once you get heat into the pads the brakes are fine.
I would think twice about using standard STI Brembo calipers as well as they retain a lot of heat. A set of AP's would be much better.

Sorry to hijack the thread, my GC8 has servo removed for jacked open throttle anti lag, uses subaru 4 pots for gravel rallies but i get lack of bite from the brakes when cold and fading when hot. What pads can anyone recomend to sort this problem?? Currently on Mintex 1155s and as i say standard subaru 4 pots.
Thanks
Thanks
