exhaust louder? de-cat ?
hi,
i dont know a lot about exhausts but i have a haywood and scott exhaust system up to the down pipe i think the down pipe and up pipe are standard, if i buy a decat uppipe, without the down pipe will it be more grumblier? my question is is there any boxes etc in the downpipe bit which would make it quieter or would it be ok just buying the £45 de-cat uppipe on ebay to make her louder
thanks! also just to clarify im purely looking for more noise not performance. and dont post saying what the point and calling me a chav lol, because the point is i wouldnt ask if i didnt want.
Durr! just noticed i forgot to say what car it is: its a turbo 2000 98 REG!
cheers!

So you have a H&S back box and decat center section?
You should be getting a fair amount of noise with a H&S backbox even with a cat in the downpipe. However there's 3 places where a cat can be found, center section (straight), downpipe and up pipe (short). Classic scoobs don't have the one on the up pipe. So you've probably got one just on the downpipe, which is the one with the bend.
Maybe get someone to see if you have a cat on your downpipe and replace it with a decat downpipe. Though I don't think it will pass emissions on an MOT which you're probably aware of.
