Default Starting problems

Hi,i own a impreza 2000 awd turbo,1999 t reg with no modifications.
The car had been running ok up until a few days ago i parked it up for about an hour, when i went to start it up again it ran for a few seconds then stopped, went to restart and it would not fire up,the car did have fuel in it but not a great deal so i put another gallon in tried again and nothing,i have checked the fuel pump and it is pushing plenty of fuel out,ive changed the fuel filter and that is pushing fuel from there, the recovery bloke that came out sprayed easy start into the air flow pipe and she started up strait away reved up great no noises from the engine no back firing etc,and then it stopped repeated the procedure same again when it had used all the easy start it stopped again,im presuming it would not be an electrical fault as it fires up with the easystart or if petrol is tipped in,not the thing you would normally do to start your car i know.
I it could 1001 things but i have just tried the basics to start with before i may have to start spending any serious dosh,by the way i only have a basic knowledge of mechanics so be gentle with me,hope someone can help,
Cheers,
Gaz.

So the use of easy start proves the plugs are firing which rules out anthing connected with the ignition side of things. Basic rule is you need spark and fuel to start a petrol engine. You have spark and no fuel. Can you hear the fuel pump prime?

Going back to the fuel pump,i cant here it prime although on flicking the ignition it does pump fuel but there is a slight delay in fuel getting past the fuel filter, should the fuel squirt out of the pipe or just run out.
