Default 2002 WRX Immobiliser/Alarm problems

Hi all,

Just got back from a weeks holiday and went out to start the car to make sure all was ok, sadly all is not! Pressed key fob button to un-lock and alarm made a very faint bleep but doors didn't unlock, tried the spare but nothing either. Unlocked the car manually which of course set off the alarm, couldn't dis-engage the immobiliser/alarm with either key from in the car and have just had to disconnect battery to stop the alarm from giving me a headache!

Does this sound like a simple battery change for the key fobs or is it likely to be something more technical with the alrm system?

Many thanks in advance for any advice, it's much appreciated

Cheers
Rich

(off to halfords now to buy some key fob batteries in feint hope all will be well)

Yep car battery is flat. Probably a good time to replace it all ready for winter.

Thanks guys, makes sense now as just before I went away I'd replaced the drive belts as the one that drives the altinator/ps pump was split lengthways, therefore battery might not have been charging properly?!

Borrowed a charger to get me going so off to buy a new battery shortly

Thanks again
