Default Problem with PISTONS

Hello !!

this is florian from bavaria . my impreza turbo engine is damaged

my Impreza is from 1999 with 218 bhp .

i bought the car with an other impreza engine inside , because it got an damaged engine before and they changed it already ( dont know which one , but the pics are from the actual engine which is inside and damaged )

now i need some new pistones and i bought the original ones from my local scooby dealer .

but they look a bit different then the old ones from the damaged engine .

Do you think i can use the new PISTONS for the old engine ?

please let me know , i dont know what to do at the moment .

here are a couple of pics from the old damaged engine and the new pistons from subaru which look good but a bit different

THIS IS THE NEW PISTON

THE OLD ONE

couple more pics

Thanks for the help mates !!

thanks for your help ,

yes the size is exactly the same .

i think the enigne is from an 1998 modell with 211bhp and the new pistons are from the 218bhp from 1999.

they they look on the TOP so different , does it not change the compression ratio if i use some other pistons ?

cheers

Possibly, but I think by very little. The new ones do appear to be late model, as long as the diameter and hieght from Gudeon pin to crown is the same then I would be happy using them

Gruss Florian,
The old pistons look like Forester pistons with a flat crown and valve relief pockets.
The new oversize pistons (HB twin dot) are for 1999~2000 WRX Impreza.

Hope this helps,
Mick

If your engine is a '99~00 they are the right ones.
What cylinder heads have you got to fit to the engine ??
Head Codes ?? RH-C,LH-C RHS20 LHS20

Yes they are Forrester pistons, you need to ensure they are the same weight and size (obviously). I think the comp ratio may be your problem though?

Yes, Pistons are the correct one's to use with the Version 5~6 heads.

When the short motor is assembled, the HB twin dot pistons with the 1.3cc bowl should sit flush or slightly below the deck face (depending if the crankcases have been decked in the past) and you should use the OEM Subaru MLS Head Gaskets 11044AA483 to maintain the correct static Compression Ratio.

Hope this helps,
Mick
