Just fitted polar chip but made no difference??
Hi guys got a z4 96 wrx, just soldered in a polar chip but there is absolutely no difference, I did cut the j1 resister, do I need to reset the ecu aswell? Can't see why as it has been off the car for an hour?
Pretty upset, was expecting a nice increase in power?

No it's a genuine Scott t chip, he recently got rid of 4 via the for sale ads.
Just took it for a longer drive, there is a tiny tiny tiny difference if that, the revlimit is still 7250, but the speed cutoff has gone no longer 112 as tested on a private road. It's tricky as I don't have a boost gauge, I can't tell if there is anymore boost.
Was rr'd couple weeks back and only managed 243.8 with z4 and decat zigen border exh was only hitting 0.8 bar back then.
Maybe I have a weak actuator???

I noticed mine instantly. Do you have a boost gauge? You should see if there is a raised boost limit.
Just noticed you don't as you posted at the same time!!

Well this is a strange one, in diagnostics mode getting a nice constant pulse saying everythings ok.
BUT in reset mode with both plugs connected I'm getting three long two short I think which is o2 sensor?? Ecu managed to reset but now feels even slower!! Argrrhhhh!

you need to fit a boost gauge to find out if it boosting right.
a standard z4 ecu should be 0.87 bar so check that you get that from the z4 ecu without chip. then you know if you have a boost issue.
the gains from a z4 ecu are not massive as the z4 should make about 260ps anyway.

i would go with a weak actuator as others have said, and fit/borrow a boost gauge the fact the car is running with the j1 link cut means its definitely running off of the chip.

Have you got any other mods on the car? My 95WRX was RR'd at 287bhp with I/C and full de-cat with the Z4 ECU, I fitted a polar chip and was also dissapointed could be a similar issue with your car???

My car runs a full decat, 5zigen border exhaust, am sti v2 intercooler, and hks panel, and some bizarre equal manifold must be jap as is normal steel and not a shape I've seen for sale over here. I think I may have a slight leak in the manifold though, as it's strange that I'm diagnostics mode it says all ok nut in reset mode shows code 32 for o2 sensor a slight leak may throw the a fault up when the o2 sensor is in fact ok??? The manifold is going to have to be replaced as its lost the burble as is too raspy. Next month will throw a STD manifold on with updated uppipe and see what happens. I'll get there in the end.....
