just disconnect the battery and leave for a couple of hours then u will be fine

There is a yellow clip under your steering column. Disconnect your ground terminal on the battery, unclip the airbag solenoid terminal, and continue.

To trick the SRS module into believing there is still an OEM airbag installed, you will need a 3ohm fireproof/flameproof resistor from www.PartsExpress.com. insert each end into each hole in the plug, seal it in electrical tape or heat shrink tubing, and you are ready to bolt on your new steering wheel.

There is no need to wait, the capacitance of an SRS system is discharged in thousandths of a second. It is extremely hard to accidentally deploy them, unless you are hacking up wire, or intentionally jamming things into the plugs.

This is the easiest part of a steering wheel swap in a Subaru. The hard part is typically extracting the old wheel. Renting or buying a puller will make life easier. Installation of new wheels is simple and fun.

So can i just Disconnect the battery (for 4 hours) and then take the wheel off with the bag and pull the module out? I dont care about the light.

 

I've done all this. Disconnected battery and waited 30 seconds and no prob. There are capacitors that can hold a fleeting charge, by the time you've disconnected the battery and got back round to doing steering wheel things this time would have passed anyway so I doubt impreza 2.01 and I will fall out over this.

Light will drive you nuts and a 10p resistor will fix so you may as well do it.

 

Disconnect battery and with the ignition on, power will soon be drained

 

I did mine without disconnecting the battery, done the steering wheel, passenger and seat airbags on current and previous cars with no problems.

I have to +1 the resistor. Why in a road legal race car have a failure of a safety device for all to see...? It's asking for trouble. Sparco has a resistor plug for most cars. $25USD. It's on eBay... as far as seats, same plug, same resistor, same price... kinda cheesy, but if you want to pay $75 for $1 worth of electronics and a really "fake OEM" part so that you can hide an obvious mod's downfall... geez, it takes 2 seconds.

No way D1CCY, it's a breeze... I am running a Sparco Champion 310mm on an NR-G short hub w/ OMP spacer and trim ring, w/ TastyNuts Ti hardware throughout... Supertones love me for it. lol
