As above I have a version 5 STI type r will I be able to run the car ok on the base map until I can get it mapped? It's always run on vpower, its running a 3 inch cat back exhaust, k&n panel filter and a walbro pump. Could I use the hand controller to monitor anything?

No, too aggressive, keep the existing ECU plugged in until you're ready to have the Apexi fitted and mapped.

 

That's the problem the std ecu is fooked and I have the Apexi at home. Would it be ok to drive off boost until I get it mapped.
