Default Under-bonnet sound deadening - remove or keep?

Just wondering how many people out there have chosen to remove the ugly mess from under the bonnet?

Is it worth keeping it? What difference does it really make?

Threw mine away this morning as it was falling apart anyway, I don't think it's sound deadening, I think its designed to smother fire if it occurs under the bonnet

I've just done some Googling and across multiple forums the same things crop up:

- Heat insulation
- Cold weather protection/cold start-up
- Removal can cause hotspots on bonnet & paint degredation over time
- Excess noise from top ends ect

The forums were a Type R (Honda), Golf, Clio, Scoobynet & Ford.

I'm going to leave mine on - or look for a new one.

I'm sure it does different things on different cars but I have a large scoop shape hole in my bonnet so I doubt the insulation cools or keeps warm the engine.
