My98 engine 114k
Just got a my98 uk turbo and it's has common piston slap which is noisy when first start up or in cold morning. Can here the slap in **** pit with windows up . Once warm the noise of pistons seem to go. If I open window or proper listen to engine with paranoia then I can hear a slight knock about 1 to 1.5 revs if I hold at 2/3/4/5 it's sounds lovely. If I rev to 5 Quickly its fine also. When I drive with drive I can't hear it? Doesnt seem to burn oil . Is it a thing I need to get used to? Or panic about? Cheers dave
114k !!!
i think some engines suffer from piston slap when cold if it goes when warm dont worry about it.
no idea about the knocking but if its not throughout the rev range i dont think it would be big end so wouldnt worry.

MY97 uk turbo @ 165,000 miles, has slapped the last 75,000 I have owned it. Particularly bad on cold mornings. Smooth as silk when warm. Everyone keeps telling me big ends gone. Defo not yet as wifes MY97 big ends have let go twice and that is a very different noise, and the onset is sudden.
I just grit my teeth and turn the radio up, and take comfort in the spare engine in the garage waiting the inevitable
