Cheers Tim, I was more concerned with the cold viscosity, rather than the top end. Call me a numptie if you want , but what is the difference between a W60 and W50? I've always believed that it was the upper temp range that the oil could "handle" without breaking down. Would you recommend a semi-synth or full synth?
Cheers,
Paul
P.S. How far South West are you? I might be able to "pop" in!

A 50 is a little thinner than a 60 when hot, so will flow faster. A 40 is a little thinner still. A 40 is the standard grade in an Impreza and it's what I'd go with if the engine is standard on lowish miles. Thicker oils can handle higher temps without becoming too thin, but without track use and a fair few modification, using a 50 or 60 isn't helping the engine as it won't be flowing as well as it could be.
A full synthetic is the best option.
