Default V3/4 sti intercooler into v2 wrx?

Hi guys, I'm after fitting a version 3/4 sti intercooler into my v2 wrx and I'm after some advice.

At the mo I have a slanty undertray, will the later square v3 onward undertray fit my pre- facelift bonnet and scoop??

Thanks in advance for any input!!

Davey

Thanks Mark!

Does look a pain, would fitting a later 98- inlet help as I believe they were cast to move the throttle more towards the front of the car?

I think with some effort I'll be able to get it to fit, my only worry is whether the later 98- undertray will fit my bonnet? Anybody know?

Cheers for any help
Davey

For the effort involved it is just not worth it. You also need the under tray or it may even be worse.
Do it properly and go for an efficient FMIC such as Hybrid tube and fin.

Depending on what mods and power your running putting a later tmic is a good move.not everyone thinks you have to have a fmic which involves a remap etc...saw good gains and drop in temps when I fitted sewage wrx ic to my uk 97 turbo.

It can be done, but it's a hassle. Can you not get a v2 STI intercooler which although not as good as the bigger v3/4 version, will still give you improvements over the WRX intercooler, without the associated pain of crowbarring the bigger box in.

Changing to any intercooler, top mount or front mount that makes any useful difference to performance will require a remap to keep the engine safe. The reason for this is that the car will need more fuel in areas of the map that it may not enter at this present time.

I'd like to keep mine looking as original as poss that's all it's a nigh on immaculate 53k import, completely STD looking apart from gab suspension and zigen exhaust all fitted in japan.

Is there a way to increase the cooling capability of the STD intercooler?

260 bhp is not very much power and below the level at which version 1 and 2 slanted intercoolers can operate. They are generally good to 280 bhp. A version 3 to 6 TMIC will flow air slightly better but it is only a marginal improvement.

What sort of temperature drop in ACTs and where was it measured? If you didn't need more fuel the gains are slight and only using up the over fuelling that already exists particularly on older cars.
