Default Rear diff noise?

I'm trying to decide if my rear diff is knackered or not as I can hear noises, what I consider loud noises coming from it.

It's a R160 4.44 mechanical LSD on a 330bhp Type R. There is quite a bit of add-on bracing around it (pics below), and also the two main fixing pins with the 19mm bolts on have solid aluminium bushings - so it's pretty solid in there, fixed to the subframe.

Whilst cruising at steady speed, say between 50 and 70 I can hear whining. This isn't too loud. The loud noise is a clattering, knocking, especially on over-run. If it's over-run down hill even worse. I can also hear back lash when lifting off and back on. All worse when hot, and particularly louder from the left inside rear (a friend has had his head in the back to confirm this).

Is all this clattering, banging and knocking normal, for what I can only thing is because of the fixing arrangement?

Well spotted Baz... however, that is an old pic and since then the hanger has switched sides where it works properly
