Can you date a turbo engine from the engine Number?

Got two unidentified bottom ends, I'd like to know what I have!

Block type,pistons and rods will narrow it down a bit - or even a few pics would help .

Ta,
one is WRX, one is STi, both open deck, both have alloy cover behind the flywheel, but theses can be swapped I suppose.
It's a date I'm looking for really.
Is there a part number on something that would help?

Is there a sticker/bar code on the center outer timing cover as that would tell you.

both were just bare short motors, not a lot to go on really.
