Default Why do ECU's not adjust themselves automatically?

If you get a decat system, why don't the sensors pick up the changes and adjust accordingly?

Thanks

Is this because the ecu is set up with the cats so if you take them off you then need to get the ecu reset (mapped)
Be nice to have a self mapping ecu happy days

The DENSO ECU on the Bug WRX (not STi) can cope with the de-cat

So is the ECU looking for readings that don't exist, the ECU in simple terms just being a table of data?

Thanks

Most are based upon a table of data as its a cost effective solution, its norm a 3D map that covers a multitude of samples like throttle position, pressure (Map sensor) RPM. From these things the ECU looks up the amount of fuel required. The sensors are normally there to aid in the estimation of load on the engine, low speed pulls and cruse. Also sensors for cold start and failsafe if something goes miss.

Self learning ECU’s do exist but involve processing power and with this there is a greater chance of it going wrong (Program Crash) . Some mapping software can self set and do the job of the mapper , on a basic level from a base map. Like everything its all based upon the need for a robust, reliable and cheap method of controlling the engine parameters.

Ecus designed and mapped to run a standard car, with a small amount of adaption for tollerances on parts and fuel etc.

Its not designed expecting the owner to change the exhaust, take cats out, fit a faster flowing air filter etc.

The subaru engine is very sensitive and no two the same so it needs remapping properly for changes made on the car.
