Question Cold air induction kits

Hi,
After an answer with regards my new age sti impreza with a cold air induction kit, recently fitted one now I'm reading it needs mapping blah blah blah! Is there any truth in this? I only wanted it for the noise. Surely it can't effect the running that much. The stock air box had air direct into it via the wing ducting. So what causes maf issues? The air flow, vibration? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Lot's of bad experiences with Induction kits on none mapped cars - stick to a decent panel filter

echo whats said above, decent pannel filter is cheap as chips, then when you get it mapped get a cold air feed/ fitting cold air feed without a map is asking to have a new engine built.

Why? Such an expense on mapping for a cold air kit as low as fourth quid? Don't get it............

What about the snorkel mod on the standard air box? Apparently you still get the induction noise this way?

What's people's opinions on that? Would that need mapping etc etc

I think people on here go on about mapping for even the simplest of mods, however, after I fitted a cold air kit to mine Racedynamix mapped it and I was very surprised at how much the map needed adjusting.

you spent the money buying it, you spent the time fitting it, for a noise? a modification that could have potential catastrophic implications for your engine if you don't have the ecu remapped to take account of the new AFR scales. I just don't understand some people

Ok,

Back to standard air box and cold air kit on e-bay. Not worth the hassle, whoever is right on the verdict!
I couldn't warrant a remap for such a silly mod, even though it sounded very good in my opinion. lmao

Thanks all
