Post Hydraulic Lifter's ratteling

Hi,

I just done the head Gasket on my Wife's 94 WRX i lapped in all the valves, then pumped all the oil out of the hydraulic lifters, soaked them in Petrol, and compressed them while in the petrol to clean them out once the petrol coming out was clean I pumped all the petrol out and prined them up in clean oil.

now the engine is all back together the Hydraulics are ratteling like ***k had it idling at 2k for 20 mins then on tickover for an hour and a half still did not quieten down, took it for a short drive still the lifters are noisy.

anyone got any ideas on getting them to go quiet?

before anyone asks, the timing marks are all 100% spot on, ad the pulleys are on correctly.

Thanks
Derek

you should have put the lifters in a can of oil over night for as long as you can.there is now oil takeing up the slack in the lifters.i would take the lifters back out and cover them in oil for a day or so

Best way to clean them is to strip them apart and clean them out - a few drops of oil when re-assembling is normally all you need.

Take the car for a longer drive to see if they will pump back up - it does take a while for them to recover.
