Question Fitted new steering rack. Feels dodgy!!!

Hi all.

I fitted a steering rack to my classic as the one that was on there was leaking fluid.

The rack I have fitted has come off another scoob that is being broke.

I did plan to take my car and have it tracked tomorrow but am scared to drive it now!

I have gone to go out this morning got to the end of my road and turned back. The steering feels dodgy in the sense that it seems that you have to put quite a bit of lock to get it to respond, It feels ten times easier to turn the wheel than normal (if feels as though the front wheels are lifted of the floor it's that easy) and when you do have lock on the wheels will not straighten on their own whilst moving.

I realize it needs tracking but the wheels do look straight so it can't be that far off.

Have I done something wrong? Is it safe to drive?

Any advice is greatly appreciated

Is it a "new" new steering rack or a 2nd hand one that you have used?
