Default Rad pipes

i took my car for a drive today after 3 wks standing, had a overheating issue whilst it off road, but all fixed due to rad block

Thing is i took for a drive today about 4/5 mls on low boost, when i stopped smelt burning water smell put that down to soaking engine got, whilst doing flush,

Felt bottom pipe and still cold rad was hot, but pipe was as hard as nails, would this be the norm ?.
